Kormotech has entered the Egyptian market with its premium pet food line

Kormotech has become the first Ukrainian pet food company to start exporting cat and dog food to Egypt.

Since mid-August, the premium brand Club 4 Paws has been available in Egyptian pet stores.

«Egypt is the third-largest and one of the most dynamic economies in Africa, offering great potential for our business,» said Vasyl Yatsyshyn, Head of Business Development for Mass Market Brands at Kormotech. «Despite economic challenges, we see significant demand for high-quality and affordable pet food. Additionally, we always consider the cultural specifics of the countries we enter. Egypt, being an Arab Islamic state, requires that pet food be Halal-certified.»

The Egyptian market is relatively new for Kormotech but also quite large. A year and a half ago, the company signed an agreement with a distributor, and after nine months of brand registration, Kormotech entered the Egyptian market. So far, 80 tons of pet food have been shipped, with another 78 tons ready for dispatch, totaling 158 tons of Club 4 Paws pet food.

The Egyptian market is highly dynamic. According to Euromonitor reports, the pet food market in the country was valued at $13.7 million last year and is expected to reach $15.3 million by 2025. Due to urbanization, the number of pets, which stood at 4 million in 2022, could increase by 90,000.

«Entering the Egyptian market is part of Kormotech's new five-year strategy to grow sales in international markets. We are expanding our geographic reach and increasing both the quantity and quality of distribution in these markets," said Mykola Deviatov, Strategic Business Units Director for Southeast Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia at Kormotech. «Initially, we will focus on partnerships with offline stores, but by the end of the year, we plan to develop an e-commerce network to expand distribution and enhance brand recognition in international markets.»

As a reminder, Kormotech finished 2023 with a turnover of $152 million and increased its share of international sales to 31%. The ratio of sales abroad to those in Ukraine currently stands at 31% to 69% by volume.

The most dynamic growth of Kormotech brands, compared to last year's sales volume, was observed in the markets of Romania (+35%), Poland (+11%), and Moldova (+11%). Last year, the company signed contracts with partners in Malaysia, began sales in Finland, and is actively developing in the markets of Spain and Italy, expanding its presence to 43 countries worldwide. At the same time, Kormotech has maintained its leadership in the Ukrainian market.
