Save Pets Of Ukraine released a charitable book on the rescue of animals in Kherson Region

'Saving Four-pawed (and People) of Kherson' is the second charitable book from the social initiative Save Pets of Ukraine by Kormotech.

It is based on actual events narrated by eyewitnesses who saved animals in Kherson after the Russians blew up the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station.

Charitable Book on Animal Rescue in Kherson Released: 'In this book, 19 stories of courageous people are collected. Residents whose homes were completely flooded and miraculously remained unharmed. Journalists from 'Suspilne' are photographers who made invaluable shots for global media while neck-deep in water. Volunteers who, risking their lives, saved the animals of Kherson. They ventured into the water, swam, dove, climbed onto roofs and trees, and broke windows and doors. Many stories are closely intertwined. After all, all the heroes worked shoulder to shoulder, having one goal: to save the four-pawed (and people) of Kherson,' says Kateryna Mykhailenko, who collected and recorded the stories in the preface to the book

Readers will learn about the story of Noah, a dog who led rescuers in a boat until they found and saved two more dogs. About how volunteers accidentally stopped to pick up a chicken and a rooster and miraculously avoided shelling. About Newfoundland Buddy, who got lost during the flood but was found by volunteers and reunited with his owner in a shelter in the Kyiv region. About a dog that 'led' rescuers to a woman in the water who had almost lost consciousness. About the shepherd dog Gina, whose photo went viral: she hugged the leg of her rescuer. And many more poignant stories of saving four-pawed friends (and people) of Kherson.

In total, during the tragedy in Kherson, volunteers saved over 1500 animals. The social initiative Save Pets of Ukraine supported 13 volunteer groups/public organizations. It provided 6 tons or about 20,000 portions of food, special milk for kittens, and treats to attract hungry animals fleeing rescuers, cages, carriers, antiseptics, sedatives, and more. Later, the initiative distributed another 20 tons of food among shelters that housed evacuated animals from Kherson.

All proceeds from selling the book 'Saving Four-pawed (and People) of Kherson will help dog and cat shelters.
